FAQ

What do you charge?

Our prices are based on the type of event, how many people you expect (for corporate events) and the location of your event. We are not the cheapest DJ service in the area, but we are not the most expensive either. We feel that with the training, background and experience you will receive, you are getting top quality for your money. Please see our rate page for our current prices. Or, call us at (319) 361-2361 or email us to find out more about prices.

What is included in your price?

All prices include a Set-up, dinner/background music, full light show (depending on the room we are set-up in), dance music and tear down, and all the benefits listed on the wedding page. There is no charge for travel if the event takes place in the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City are. If the event is outside of that area, there will most likely be a travel charge and possibly a lodging charge if we have to spend the night. Extra hours can be purchased.

Will you be setting up while our guests are present?

No. We always schedule our day to arrive about three hours earlier than the start time of the event. This allows us to be completely set-up and ready by the time the first guest shows up.

What experience do you have?

Jeff Zahrt has been performing as a mobile disc jockey since 1985. Jeff has performed at numerous weddings, class reunions, corporate parties, school dances, proms local clubs and private parties. Jeff graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a BA degree in Broadcast Communications, and also worked at the student radio station. While in college working at the student radio station Jeff served many duties including morning DJ, Program Director and Music Director. For more information on Jeff and Lane McMullen, please see the about Z-Music page for full bio.

How do I know that Jeff will be at my event?

Z-Music is a single unit operation. This means that we only do one booking on any given day. This allows us the flexibility to concentrate solely on your event, and give you all of our attention. This also guarantees that Jeff will be the DJ at your event. There is no chance for double booking. Z-Music does not subcontract out to other DJ companies, or hire someone else to do an event. We believe that this dedication truly provides superior service.

How will you dress for the occasion?

We can dress from the very formal to the very casual. It all depends on your event. For Weddings, the DJ’s will be in black slacks, a white-banded collared shirt and a tuxedo vest. If it is a beach party that you are planning, we can wear beachwear. We always try to dress in a manner that matches the event. Ultimately it is up to you.

What type of equipment do you use?

Only the best! (but of course all DJ's will say that) All of our equipment is professional grade equipment. We do not buy any of our gear at local retail or department stores. We use equipment that is designed and built for what we are using it for, to ensure that your event goes off without a hitch. And, just in case the unforeseeable does happen, we do carry some back-up gear. If you would like a full listing of the brands of equipment we use, please email us and we will gladly send you a list.

Can we make requests?

Yes, absolutely! We encourage it. We pride ourselves on playing as many requests as we possibly can (providing they are appropriate). We feel this is the best way to program any event. In fact we will ask your guests to make requests. This way we have a better idea of what they want to hear and dance to.

Can we request that certain songs not be played?

Certainly. As the bride and groom or host of the event, it is up to you. If there are certain songs that you do not want played, we will gladly comply. If a particular song is requested that you asked us not to play, we will ask you personally if we should play the song. This is your event.

Who controls the volume?

You do! If you want the music just loud enough so that regular conversations can take place, we can play at that volume and still provide crystal clear sound. If you want heart thumpin’ driving music, we can play at that volume, and still be crystal clear. More volume is not always better. Our system is set-up and designed for maximum efficiency. So you get great sound at any level. This is your party.

How much of your music is on compact disc?

All of it. We are 100% CD. However, this is not our prime medium that we play. Most all of our music is on MP3, and we use a computer to DJ.

If you use a computer, how much of your music is downloaded? Is it legal?

We do not download any of our music. All of our music is "ripped" from the actual CD's. The same CD's we bring with us as a back-up. Since all of our music is "ripped" from the CD's, we are completely legal. Plus you can be assured that there will be none of those annoying hic-cups in the music that often happens with downloads.

Will I receive a written contract?

Yes. Every client that books with us will receive a written contract that details all of the issues pertaining to your event. If a DJ will not give you a signed written contract, then you are best off to keep looking. A signed contract protects both parties. Always get a signed contract.

How far ahead should we book a date?

As a rule of thumb, as soon as you pick your date, you should also line up your entertainment along with your reception hall, church and caterer. We generally book about a year in advance. So the sooner you know, the better. All dates are booked on a first come first serve basis.

How do we book a date?

A date will be considered tentative once a contract is written and sent out. You will have 10 working days to return the contract with a retainer fee. Once the contract is received with a retainer fee, the date will be locked. If a contract is not returned within 10 days with a retainer fee, I cannot guarantee the date.

Will you still be in business on the day of our event?

Yes. We have a 15 year success record. This is a very good question however. Many DJ companies come and go. That’s one reason that a signed contract is so important. We will be here, you can count on it.

Does the DJ get involved or interact with the guests?

This is up to you. We can be as interactive as you would like. We pride ourselves on being able to tailor our performance to suit your needs. If interactivity and games are what you want, then we are in the middle of it. If all you want is some low background music, we can do that as well. Again, it is entirely up to you.

Do you have the music that we want?

Most likely yes. We like to meet with you before hand to discuss this very issue. We will cover the type of music that you are looking for, the energy level that you want, and any other special requests that you have. If there are special requests that you have and we don’t have the music, we will get it.

Will you act as Master of Ceremonies?

Yes! Jeff will use his professional background, training, and experience to make any announcements that you may need. Jeff will also act as Master of Ceremonies to co-ordinate any planned events that you have scheduled.

Do you have any references?

Yes. Please call us at (319) 361-2361 or email us with this request and we will gladly provide you with some references.

What if I have more questions?

If you have more questions, please call us at (319) 361-2361 or email us, and we will gladly answer any other questions that you may have.
